On International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), annually celebrated on June 23, young Emirati engineers shared their passion about a fulfilling career.
INWED was launched in the UK as a national campaign in 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society to celebrate its 95th anniversary.
By 2017, the campaign went global due to a surge in international interest, and since then the annual event has been shedding light on the notable contributions of women engineers globally.
This year, INWED is marked under the theme “Enhanced by Engineering”, celebrating women engineers’ work to support lives and livelihoods.
Speaking on this occasion, Emirati engineer Maryam Alhefeiti told Aletihad that she is content with her fulfilling career.
“I graduated from United Arab Emirates University with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering. Currently, I work as an engineer in the oil industry, where I use my skills and knowledge to contribute to the energy sector,” she said. She encouraged young women everywhere to pursue their dreams relentlessly. “Your potential is boundless, and your contributions are invaluable in shaping a more inclusive and innovative future,” Alhefeiti added.
Also on the occasion, Emirati engineering student, Mariam Alzaabi shared her passion for innovation and AI-driven initiatives.
“I am a computer engineering graduate currently pursuing a master’s degree in computer science at Khalifa University, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. Engaging in various AI-driven initiatives supported by the UAE has fuelled my passion for technology and innovation. These experiences have been invaluable in shaping my career path,” she said.
Alzaabi also encouraged young women to pursue engineering careers, drawing attention to the limitless potential of women and the diverse opportunities in the field, while stressing the prominence of perseverance and excellence.
